Al Ahly Player Faces Criminal Court for Assaulting Moroccan Footballer Mohamed Chibi

In Egypt, the case Mohamed Chibi of the Moroccan international Mohamed Chibi playing for Pyramids FC who was assaulted by Hussein Al-Shahat at the end of a match is far from over. The Al Ahly player risks a heavy prison sentence.
Hussein El Shahat, Egyptian midfielder of Al-Ahly, risks a lot. The Egyptian prosecutor’s office has decided to refer the case of aggression against the Moroccan right-back of Pyramids FC, Mohamed Chibi, to the Criminal Court for examination. The first hearing will take place on April 18.
After a match between Pyramids FC and Al Ahly in July 2023, the Moroccan international recounted to Al Botola how the Al Ahly player El-Shahat not only physically attacked him, but also threatened to break his leg. "I was the victim of insults and offensive remarks towards my mother and father during the Supercup match in the United Arab Emirates, as well as during today’s match, where I suffered provocations and blows during the two matches," he also recounted in a post on his Instagram account.
"Before today’s incident and before the slap, there had been threats to break my foot, where I was told: ’If you had started the match, I would have broken your leg.’ This threat jeopardizes my future in Egyptian football. I could have easily reacted the same way, or even more, but the respect for the internal rules of the club and my superiors at the Pyramids FC club pushed me to avoid any reaction at that time," explained Chibi.
Following the incident, the Egyptian Football Federation imposed a sanction on Hussein Al Shahat: a two-match suspension and a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds. Dissatisfied, the Moroccan player filed a complaint against the Al Ahly player. His lawyer assures that the case only concerned the player and had no connection with his club, Pyramids, or its management.
