Moroccan Footballer Files Complaint After Threats from Al Ahly Player in Egypt

In Egypt, Moroccan international Mohamed Chibi, who plays for Pyramids FC, was subjected to insults and threats from Al Ahly player Hussein Al-Shahat after a match. He has decided to file a complaint.

Pyramids FC won against Al Ahly on Sunday. But a fire will have drawn attention at the end of the match. In an interview with Al-Botola, Moroccan international Mohamed Chibi recounted how Al Ahly player El-Shahat not only physically attacked him, but also threatened to break his leg. He also posted a message on his Instagram account to talk about it.

"I was the victim of insults and offensive remarks towards my mother and father during the Supercup match in the United Arab Emirates, as well as during today’s match, where I suffered provocations and blows during the two matches," says the 30-year-old player. "Before today’s incident and before the slap, there had been threats to break my foot, where I was told: ’If you had started the match, I would have broken your leg.’ This threat jeopardizes my future in Egyptian football. I could have easily reacted the same way, or even more, but respect for the internal rules of the Pyramids FC club and my superiors at the club pushed me to avoid any reaction at that time," he explains.

Following the incident, the Egyptian Football Federation sanctioned Hussein Al-Shahat: a two-match suspension and a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds. Chibi, meanwhile, went to Saudi Arabia to perform the Umrah. Back in Egypt, he decided to file a complaint against the Al Ahly player. The Moroccan right-back is seeking justice from the Moroccan consulate in Egypt.
