Agadir Authorities Dismantle Long-Standing Migrant Camp, Citing Poor Living Conditions

Installed for many months at the bus station in the [city of Agadir], the sub-Saharan migrants in an irregular situation were evicted on Tuesday by the local authorities. They have just provided explanations.
The camp "did not meet the conditions for a decent life", indicates the wilaya in a press release, specifying that it had been the subject of several complaints from residents of the neighborhood. This dismantling took place, it is assured, "under the guidance and with the support of the central services concerned".
And to add that the implementation of this operation was "an initiative in favor of migrants in an irregular situation, in compliance with the major guidelines of Morocco in this area and as part of the implementation of local initiatives for the benefit of this category".
The migrants were, according to the press release, "transferred, with their consent and under conditions in accordance with the standards, to a social housing center in the Anza district" where they can benefit from medical care and food.
Meanwhile, identification operations are continuing in an attempt to find a permanent solution with diplomatic representations.
It should be noted that many comments on social networks highlighted the concomitance of this action by the city and the rumors of a visit by King Mohammed VI to Agadir.
