Abderrahman Laktit, "dangerous criminal" of Moroccan origin, wanted by the Belgian police
The Antwerp public prosecutor’s office and the Belgian police issued a wanted notice on Monday, November 17 to find two men, Gulhan Yildirim and Abderrahman Laktit, of Moroccan origin. They are considered dangerous fugitives, having been convicted by default last May to heavy sentences for a case of kidnapping and torture of a teenager.
The facts, of extreme gravity, date back to April 2020. A 13-year-old boy had been kidnapped from his home in Genk by individuals posing as police officers. The teenager was then sequestered and tortured for several weeks in different places, notably in Maaseik and Houthalen-Helchteren.
The kidnappers were demanding a ransom of 4 to 5 million euros from the family. The latter had finally given in, paying 300,000 euros in two installments, as well as 30,000 euros in jewelry and cash. The hostage had finally been released on June 1, 2020.
The justice system has taken its course and a total of seven men have been convicted in this case by the Tongres court on May 15 last. Gulhan Yildirim and Abderrahman Laktit received the heaviest sentences, 29 years in prison each.
