Drug Lords’ Paradise Lost: Antwerp Kingpins Nabbed in Dubai
An international cooperation operation has allowed the handover to Belgium of two individuals considered as major figures of organized crime in Antwerp. Arrested in Dubai where they had taken refuge, these men who were the subject of Interpol red notices, are accused of large-scale drug trafficking, the constitution of a criminal organization and money laundering. One of them is of Moroccan origin.
One of the two extradited men is Faysal El Ballouti, a trafficker who had already been convicted in absentia in 2020 to seven years in prison for the importation of 1.3 tons of cocaine. He had tried to legally contest his extradition from Dubai, but his recent arrest has allowed his handover to Belgium.
His main case dates back to 2019, when he had been apprehended in a warehouse in Niel, based on intelligence from the US domestic security. The investigators had caught him red-handed with two accomplices, as they were unloading the cocaine cargo.
The investigation had also highlighted the suspect’s lifestyle. Searches of his home had led to the seizure of many luxury items, including three Patek Philippe watches worth an estimated 37,000 to 80,000 euros each. Furthermore, he is suspected of having acquired, with his brother, nearly 8 million euros worth of real estate in Dubai.
The second extradited man, Mark O., is also a well-known figure to the justice system, having already been convicted to several prison sentences for drug trafficking. He is due to appear again in early 2026 in a vast money laundering case. According to the Emirati authorities, these extraditions underline their commitment to international cooperation.
