Zidane Expresses Fondness for Morocco, Recalls Positive Experiences

Zinedine Zidane, a former French international of Algerian origin, cannot help but proclaim his love for Morocco and its people.
"Whenever I’ve been to Morocco, I’ve been treated well and the people have been very warm. I’ve played in the Hassan II tournament with France several times and I have very good memories of it," he had said to Marca in 2004. At the time, he had expressed the wish that Morocco be the host country for the 2010 World Cup. "I would be very happy if Morocco could host the 2010 World Cup. It would be wonderful for all the Maghreb countries. This candidacy is a source of pride for me."
The former French international of Algerian origin had then called on Algeria and Tunisia to support Morocco’s candidacy. "Algeria, Tunisia and all the other Maghreb nations will support Morocco’s candidacy. It will be a great celebration for all the Maghrebis, and especially for the Moroccans. It would be a good choice for the World Cup," he had added. Supporting Morocco’s candidacy, he had highlighted Moroccan hospitality: "It’s very simple: the Moroccans are honest, sincere and very warm, and it would be a good thing for the World Cup. Plus, I’m sure the organization would be excellent. It’s the perfect option."
Zinedine’s love for Morocco is such that the 1998 world champion went to Marrakech in 2022 with his family to attend the wedding of his eldest son Enzo, the former attacking midfielder of Fuenlabrada.
