Young Moroccan Prince Gains Prominence in Royal Ceremonies

Monday 7 April 2025, by Prince

At only 8 years old, Moulay Ahmed, the eldest son of Moulay Rachid, the brother of King Mohammed VI, and therefore the nephew of the monarch, is starting to stand out during official ceremonies.

Born on June 23, 2016, Moulay Ahmed seems to be the second heir to the throne, just after Moulay Hassan, 21 years old. The young 8-year-old prince was recently seen during the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, alongside King Mohammed VI who attended the prayers with his family at the Ahl Fas mosque in Rabat. Like the other members of the royal family, Moulay Ahmed had worn the traditional yellow tunic for the occasion and had received the same honors, as reported by El Debate.

This is not the first time that Moulay Ahmed has appeared in public. The nephew of Mohammed VI had taken part in the festivities marking the 66th anniversary of the death of his great-grandfather, King Mohammed V, and had paid tribute to his tomb in the royal mausoleum alongside his father. The son of Moulay Rachid and Lalla Oum Kalthum Boufarès could be entrusted with more responsibilities in the future. In this perspective, he could, like his cousin, the Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, attend the prestigious Royal Palace School in Rabat.

To recall, the mother of Moulay Ahmed is the daughter of Moulay El Mamoun Boufarès, son of Lalla Khadija, sister of King Mohammed V. This kinship between Moulay Rachid and Lalla Oum Kalthum Boufarès gives an even stronger basis to the couple who married in November 2014 in Rabat. Moulay Ahmed has a younger brother, Moulay Abdeslam, born on June 1, 2022.
