Young Moroccan Man Missing After Attempting Dangerous Swim to Ceuta

Oussama El Hammoumi, 21, has been missing since he decided, on Monday, with two friends of the same age, to reach Ceuta by swimming from Fnideq.
The three young men, in search of a better future, tried on Monday to cross Tarajal by swimming at the risk of their lives. Oussama’s aunt, residing in Barcelona, tells El Faro de Ceuta that her nephew disappeared at sea during this crossing which would have lasted at least 45 minutes. One of his friends returned to Morocco because he could not continue the journey as the sea was quite rough. The second, on the other hand, managed to reach Ceuta, but there has been no news of Oussama.

When he left Fnideq, the young man was wearing shorts and a pink T-shirt, as evidenced by a photograph he took on Monday before throwing himself into the sea. Since then, his family has had no news of him. Desperate, they have issued an SOS to find Oussama, the only boy in the family.
Several young Moroccans, candidates for immigration, have disappeared or lost their lives at sea while trying to reach Ceuta by swimming, in search of a better future in Europe.
