Moroccan Teen Missing for 7 Months After Attempting Swim to Ceuta, Family Pleads for Help

Haytam El Amrani, 19, disappeared at sea while trying to reach Ceuta by swimming seven months ago. Without news of him, his desperate family is launching an SOS to find him.
The young man left the beach of Dalia in Tangier since May to reach Ceuta by swimming. He worked as a hairdresser in the city before deciding to undertake this journey, his mother, Wahiba, tells El Foro de Ceuta. Since then, Haytam’s family has had no news of him. It is asking for help to find him and says it has already informed the Moroccan authorities of his disappearance.

According to the latest report from the NGO Caminando Fronteras, 4,175 people died at sea and 229 disappeared at sea during the year 2021. In the lot, 628 women and 205 children died. The number of deaths at sea increased by 102.95% compared to 2020, the association specifies in its report, adding that most of these victims (94.8%) remain unidentified.
