The Atlas Lionesses will face Ireland in a friendly match in Spain as part of their preparations for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, which will take place from July 20 to August 20, 2023. Irish coach Vera Pauw has called up stars like goalkeeper Katie Keane, only 16 years old, world champion with Shelbourne.
In addition to Katie Keane, Vera Pauw has also called up Erin McLaughlin, a midfielder from Peamount United. The match will be held on November 14 in Marbella, Spain. "It has been a challenge to find an opponent in such a short time, but we are really excited to be able to confirm this training camp in Marbella followed by a match against Morocco, which will represent an ideal test as we begin our preparations for the World Cup," said the Irish coach.
This will be a third friendly match for the Atlas Lionesses. They played in October against Poland (4-0 loss) in Spain and Canada (4-0 loss). They will have to improve their performance in the next friendly match.
The Moroccan national team will participate for the first time in the Women’s World Cup. Placed in Group H, they will face Germany, South Korea and Colombia.
