91-Year-Old French Woman Ruined of 550,000 Euros and Sent to Casablanca

The trial, scheduled for May 18 and 19, concerns acts of unlawful confinement, abuse of vulnerability and money laundering committed between 2019 and 2023. The investigation covers several French cities as well as Casablanca, where the victim was allegedly taken after being persuaded to liquidate her real estate assets and financial investments, reports La République des Pyrénées.

A former wine salesman already convicted of similar fraud, the suspect entered into a civil solidarity pact (PACS) with the victim in 2020. This legal connection allegedly enabled him to close the nonagenarian’s life-insurance policies worth 550,000 euros and divert the proceeds from property sales into his personal accounts.

The prosecution argues that the man arranged for the victim to be transferred to Morocco and placed with a Moroccan family. In this arrangement, his current partner, a 24-year-old woman, played the role of an “au pair.” According to the prosecutor, the defendant “methodically stripped his victim” until she no longer owned any assets.

For his part, the defendant denies all the charges, claiming that the elderly woman acted “of her own free will” and with full awareness. The Investigating Chamber is currently reviewing the suspect’s continued pretrial detention, pending the verdict in a case where the victim, now ruined, has not joined the proceedings as a civil party.
