The World Cup in Morocco threatened because of Spain?

The Civil Guard conducted a search on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) which is the subject of a judicial investigation for corruption, discrimination and money laundering. The outcome of these investigations could lead to the invalidation of Spain’s bid for the 2030 World Cup that it was to organize jointly with Morocco and Portugal.
Spain may no longer host the 2030 World Cup, alongside Morocco and Portugal. Even though the joint candidacy of the three countries has been selected by FIFA, it will first have to be definitively validated. A step that should take place in December 2024, after the presentation and validation of the logo and slogan next July, recalls 20minutos.
In the meantime, all eyes are on Spain, whose Federation will have to restore its image internationally. The governing body of Spanish football is the subject of a judicial investigation. Its former president, Luis Rubiales, currently residing in the Dominican Republic, is suspected of money laundering, in particular of commissions received on contracts signed with Saudi Arabia, which has hosted the Spanish Super Cup since 2020.
The Spanish football world and at the international level is closely following this news and eagerly awaiting the results of this investigation and to see whether the eleven alleged perpetrators of corruption and money laundering offenses will be found guilty or not. These decisions will determine the maintenance or invalidation of Spain’s file for the organization of the 2030 World Cup.
For the record, FIFA had already suspended Rubiales from his duties after the affair of the non-consensual kiss given to the player Jenni Hermoso during the final of the women’s football World Cup, won by Spain. An affair that had sparked a major controversy and threatened Spain, Morocco and Portugal’s candidacy for the 2030 World Cup.
