World Bank Grants Morocco $48 Million Loan to Bolster COVID-19 Response

Morocco’s efforts to free itself from the grip of the coronavirus have been praised by several countries and financial institutions. To support the kingdom in managing the effects of the covid-19 pandemic, the World Bank has granted a new loan of $48 million.
In a press release, the World Bank indicates that this loan is part of a financing approved in 2015 in the form of a results-based program. It is intended to support primary health services.
According to the international financial institution based in Washington, an envelope of $13.01 million in undisbursed financing under this program will be supplemented by an additional $35 million. They will be allocated through the accelerated aid mechanism set up by the World Bank Group to face the covid-19 pandemic through a project restructuring exercise. These funds will represent the public authorities’ health response to strengthen prevention, detection, surveillance and case management, it is indicated.
This approved envelope will support the purchase of medicines, equipment and medical supplies. It will also finance the acquisition of technical and medical equipment for accredited laboratories and hospitals for the management of COVID-19 cases, while developing testing capacities and case management.
