World Bank Endorses Morocco’s Ambitious 2035 Development Plan

A new development model (NDM) based on a strong economy, better human capital, not to mention social inclusion, territories and sustainability to transform Morocco by 2035 has been proposed by the Special Commission on the Development Model (CSMD). This has been approved by the World Bank, which says it is a participatory forward-looking scheme.
In a statement to MAP, the Director of the Maghreb Department at the World Bank, Jesko Hentschel, said that this model establishes the role and responsibilities of each actor, including citizens, in building a "prosperous, plural and open" Morocco.
The NDM designed by the Benmoussa commission, which combined reflections, analytical work and broad consultations with a range of stakeholders, constitutes a "useful" and "valuable" exercise to chart a new path for the Kingdom’s development, Hentschel stressed.
The official noted that Morocco is well aware that its ability to become more competitive in the global market and, above all, to strengthen the well-being and prosperity of its citizens, depends on a substantial and long-term investment in its most precious resource, which is human capital.
"At the World Bank, we welcome this inflection, already engaged for several years, and on which Morocco will not be able to do without. The reform projects already undertaken in this direction are promising, but the challenges are important, particularly in terms of implementation and coordination, from the central to the most local level," he said.
The NDM is therefore full of hope and founding principles on which both the public authorities and the citizens can rely to fully claim and play their roles and strive collectively for a more prosperous future for the Kingdom’s youth, Hentschel concluded.
