Work on the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail line launched

The National Railway Office (ONCF) has just launched a call for tenders for the civil engineering work on the high-speed rail line (LGV) connecting Kenitra to Marrakech.
Costing 40 billion dirhams, the future LGV should connect Kenitra to Marrakech, passing through Rabat, Salé and the new Nouaceur hub. Its maximum speed is 350 km/h, but it should run at a commercial speed of 320 km/h for the Al Boraq trains and at a speed of 220 km/h between the Sidi Ichou junction and the Rabat tunnel and between Aïn Atiq and Zenata.
In addition to the Kenitra-Marrakech LGV, connections to existing lines are planned, as well as the development of stations, the Kenitra-Rabat-Casablanca-Marrakech conventional line, terminal facilities, maintenance bases and the train maintenance workshop. New express roads will be built on the Casablanca side of the hub to increase the capacity of the existing rail network between Aïn Sebaâ and Bouskoura.
A new line will also be built on the southern part of the Casablanca hub, and will be exclusively dedicated to the circulation of Airport shuttle, TGV and High Performance (HP) train sets. The Casablanca rail bypass, considered as an LGV, will be exclusively reserved for passengers.
