West Ham’s Nayef Aguerd Rejects Saudi Offer, Commits to European Football
Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd finds himself at the heart of an agitated summer transfer window. While his future at West Ham remains uncertain, the player has clearly stated his ambitions: to prioritize sports development in Europe rather than petrodollars.
The Saudi club Al Ittihad would have tried to seduce Aguerd with a more than attractive financial offer. A proposal rejected by the player, determined to continue his career in Europe. At least for now.
This decision echoes the statements of Walid Regragui who confirmed the refusal of Aguerd and his teammate Azzedine Ounahi to succumb to the Saudi sirens. The two Moroccan internationals have reaffirmed their desire to progress at the highest level in order to best serve their national team.
If Aguerd has closed the door to the Gulf, other European options are emerging. Villarreal and Espanyol Barcelona would have expressed interest in the defender, opening the possibility of a transfer to the Spanish Liga.
But in the absence of an agreement, Aguerd could remain at West Ham, where his contract runs until 2027. The future of the Atlas Lion remains therefore in suspense, but like last year the Moroccan could quickly return to the game, it is enough for the coach to let him enter the field.
