West Ham’s Aguerd Balances Faith and Football During Ramadan

Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd explained his perception of Ramadan and how he intends to maintain his physical condition during the holy month.
Ramadan is not limited to the deprivation of food and drink, as many people think, said the Moroccan defender in an interview with the Real Sociedad channel, stressing that the holy month has a spiritual and religious dimension.
And to insist: "Ramadan is an opportunity to get closer to God, to purify the soul and to intensify acts of worship. It is a month that is part of the pillars of Islam, and not just a habit or a social tradition."
The 28-year-old player arrived on loan from West Ham to Real Sociedad in September for a season. Injured in the thigh, he will likely be absent for Morocco’s decisive matches against Niger and Tanzania, scheduled in March as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
