Wealthy Moroccans Flock to Spanish Beaches for Eid al-Adha Holiday

While many Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) are returning to Morocco to spend the Eid al-Adha holidays, some Moroccan families are taking the opposite path.
Some Moroccan families, particularly those who are wealthy or middle-class and live in Morocco, prefer to travel abroad, especially to southern Spain, to celebrate Eid al-Adha without a sheep, and enjoy the beaches. The idea would be to give the equivalent of the Eid sheep to a needy family or a charitable association. A religiously acceptable gesture according to Islamic law.
In a statement to the Rue20 website, one of the Moroccans who chose to spend the Eid al-Adha holidays in southern Spain explains the reasons for this choice. He mentions the desire to change certain habits, by dedicating the equivalent of the Eid sheep to a needy family and traveling with family members abroad to shop and enjoy the Eid holidays which coincide with the school and summer vacations.
Among the families who have chosen to stay in Morocco, some prefer to spend Eid al-Adha in hotels, especially in popular tourist areas. They are already storming the hotels to escape the excessive heat and also the "crowd" of Eid which characterizes most neighborhoods in Moroccan cities, we are informed.
