Morocco’s World Cup Quest: Regragui to Unveil Squad for Crucial Qualifiers
The coach of the Moroccan national team, Walid Regragui, is expected to announce the list of players selected for the September international break this Thursday. The announcement will take place during a press conference at 11:00 am at the Mohammed VI Football Complex. This selection will face Niger and Zambia as part of the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
It is expected that the list will not present any major changes compared to that of June. The technical staff indeed wishes to preserve the harmony of the group in view of the upcoming deadlines, despite certain technical errors identified during the previous matches.
This approach marks the end of an experimental phase. The coach is now seeking to consolidate the squad that will participate in the next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), relying on the three remaining international breaks to finalize his choices and correct the technical aspects.
A particular point of attention concerns the defensive sector, particularly the position of central defender. The absence of a fixed starter alongside Nayef Aguerd has led to the call-up of several players in this position recently, such as Yunis Abdelhamid, Jamal Harkass, Abdelkabir Abqar and Jawad El Yamiq, indicating a search for stability.
The Moroccan team will play its first match against Niger on Friday, September 5 at 8:00 pm, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. It will then travel to face Zambia three days later.
