Violent Protests Erupt in Brussels Following Teen’s Death in Police Chase
Sunday 12 April 2020, by
Throwing stones, gunshots fired, two police officers injured, by a paving stone and a Molotov cocktail, a police van, theft of a weapon, an empty truck tank set on fire in the Peterbos district... The rally called by young people to protest against the death of Adil, a 19-year-old, degenerated. In total, fifty young people responded to this call.
A hundred police officers from the Brussels-Midi zone had to intervene, with the support of other zones, on Saturday. They combed the area around the town hall, near the Clémenceau metro station. With their device (water cannon, helicopter...), they managed to arrest 43 protesters. On the ground, the police continue to ensure the watch.
On Friday, patrols from the Midi zone (Anderlecht, Forest, Saint-Gilles) were circulating in the Cureghem district to enforce the containment measures imposed, to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country. After spotting two young people on scooters around Place du Conseil around 9 p.m., the Anti-Crime Brigade (BAC) patrol decided to chase Adil, who wanted to evade the check, in several streets of Anderlecht.
The chase tragically ended at the level of the Quai de l’Industrie, in Anderlecht, reports Bruxelles News. Adil either collided with a police patrol or was hit by a police patrol - this version remains to be proven. The accident occurred with a VIRTUS koban patrol.
