Violent Clashes Erupt Between Moroccan and Algerian Workers in Spanish Farming Town

The Villanueva del Arzobispo district in the city of Jaen, Spain, was the scene on Thursday of violent clashes between Algerian and Moroccan seasonal workers.
According to the newspaper Nius Diario, it all started with a dispute that began around 5 a.m. between groups of Moroccan and Algerian seasonal workers. The local police of Villanueva del Arzobispo had to intervene to restore calm.
For the moment, the reasons for these violent clashes are unknown. "This kind of incident is very rare," says the mayor of the city of Jaen, known to be a land of welcome for foreign seasonal workers in agriculture.
The local police recorded several more or less serious injuries in the ranks of the demonstrators from both camps. One of them was taken to the San Juan de la Cruz hospital in Úbeda for treatment.
