Violence Erupts in Moroccan Cities Ahead of Legislative Elections

Several acts of violence broke out on Sunday in several cities in the run-up to the legislative elections, forcing the Royal Gendarmerie to intervene.
The incidents occurred in the communes of Chellalat and Oued Charrat, reports the daily Assabah, which condemns in its columns, unacceptable actions and behaviors during the pre-election campaign.
In Mohammedia, the newspaper reports, the candidate, head of the Democratic Forces Front list in Chellalat, as well as a candidate from the National Rally of Independents (RNI), were physically attacked by supporters of the Istiqlal Party (PI) candidate. They were more or less seriously injured in the face and upper limbs.
In this brawl, a pregnant woman, a candidate on the Istiqlal Party list, was also injured before being taken to a private clinic, it adds.
In Benslimane, the local authorities, with the help of the Royal Gendarmerie, prevented a commune president, who is also a member of parliament for the Benslimane province, from organizing an illegal political feast in Oued Cherrat last Sunday.
