Villarreal’s Akhomach Suspended 3 Matches for Post-Game Misconduct and VAR Damage

Villarreal player Ilias Akhomach has been suspended for three matches by the disciplinary committee of the Spanish Football Federation. The sanction follows his behavior after the match against Real Sociedad, played last Sunday at La Cerámica stadium.
Ilias Akhomach entered the field after the final whistle, even though he was not on the match sheet. The report indicates that he protested vehemently to the referee, shouting at him: "It’s a shame, a shame!" The intervention of staff members and players was necessary to remove him.
The referee’s report also mentions that Ilias Akhomach violently hit the screen of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system. This act caused the screen to fall and break, with the incident being directly observed by the referee.
As a result, the disciplinary committee has imposed a three-match suspension on the Moroccan player. One match was given for "behavior contrary to sportsmanship" and two matches for "protests against referee decisions."
This suspension applies to the matches against Celta Vigo, Espanyol, and Osasuna. However, this absence will not have an immediate sporting impact for Villarreal. Ilias Akhomach has indeed been sidelined since last October due to a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a sprain of the internal lateral ligament of his right knee. This injury forced him to end his season, and he is currently following a rehabilitation program.
