Vandals Target Christian Cemetery in Casablanca, Police Launch Investigation

Three individuals profaned a Christian cemetery in Casablanca last week. The judicial police are conducting an investigation to identify and arrest them.
Yet another Christian cemetery profaned in Morocco. The Christian cemetery of Hay Mohammedi in Ain Sebaâ (near the Chouhada cemetery) was vandalized by three individuals. Cemetery gates removed, cemetery equipment altered... Tombs housing the graves of famous Christian families, including the Margini family, were assaulted by the three individuals.
Last Wednesday, a cemetery official, by telephone, informed the representative of the Italian community in Morocco of this desecration. In a statement to the newspaper Assabah, Julio Margini, vice-president of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Morocco, regrets these acts of vandalism. The representative of the Italian community and the cemetery official contacted the authorities to inform them.
An investigation has been opened by the judicial police to identify and determine the reasons why this Christian cemetery was profaned. When questioned about what happened, the cemetery guards said they fled for fear of being attacked by the alleged perpetrators of the cemetery’s desecration.
Also present at the scene, a forensic police team examined the crime scene and took fingerprints on the tombs affected by the theft and vandalism. The investigation continues.
