Valencia Restaurant Faces Backlash for Ejecting Customers with Rainbow Flags

A Moroccan restaurant based in Valencia, Spain has been strongly criticized on social media after expelling four men wearing fans in the colors of the rainbow flag. An act deemed homophobic.

The four men placed the fans in the colors of the rainbow flag on their table in the restaurant, a behavior considered by the owner of the establishment as an attack on her religion. For this reason, Fatima, of Moroccan origin, decided to expel them. The victims denounced this act, which they consider homophobic, on the Google review pages. "They chased us away, yelling at us that we had destroyed the family and that we should go to hell," they said.

In response, the manager treated them as misguided. "May Allah guide you on the right path," wrote the Moroccan woman who, citing the Quran, then claimed that homosexuals are "committing an abomination that no one in the world has committed before." According to her, the four men committed "a moral assault within her restaurant" which, she insists, "is not a place for homosexual demonstrations." In statements to Levante-EMV, Fatima recalled having the right "to choose her clientele."

The case has sparked a wave of comments on social media. Some Internet users have called for a boycott of the restaurant and urged the authorities to apply the law intended to fight discrimination based on sexual orientation. Others have demanded that the establishment be closed and that its "Islamist" leaders be expelled. Internet users also accuse the left of being "responsible" for this situation.
