Moroccan Restaurant Denies Entry to Hijab-Wearing Patrons, Sparking Outrage

While they had booked at a famous Asian restaurant in Rabat, young women were turned away at the entrance of the establishment because they were wearing the hijab.
In a Facebook post, Moroccan journalist Mohamed Ouamoussi recounted that his daughter had booked for herself and a group of friends from France, Canada and the United States at this restaurant located in the Bir Kacem area of Rabat. But once at the entrance of the establishment, "four of her friends wearing the hijab were prevented from entering." A blatant violation of freedoms and human rights, he denounces.
The persons concerned could not believe it when the restaurant asked them to remove their hijab before entering, Oumoussi said, adding that a member of the royal family, present in the restaurant at that time, intervened and forced the establishment’s managers to apologize to the veiled women. But the latter ultimately decided to change restaurants.
