Valencia hit by Dana: crazy rumors accuse Morocco

Rumors have circulated in recent days in Valencia, a Spanish city affected by the Dana depression, indicating that this weather phenomenon would be caused by Morocco. This is not the case, assure Spanish experts.

The Dana depression has already killed at least 200 people in Spain. In Valencia, crazy rumors claim that it is a "HAARP weather attack" from Morocco. HAARP, meaning High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program, is an American scientific project that studies the ionosphere using radio signals which, according to experts, cannot affect the climate on Earth.

"The rumors that have gone viral claim that the DANA affecting Valencia is a climate attack manufactured by Morocco to attack its Spanish agricultural competitors through this project. This is false, obviously. The HAARP project exists, but the radio signals sent into the ionosphere are not capable of manipulating the weather in any way; It would take much more energy to do that. It’s a hoax that has been manufactured for a long time with other weather phenomena," explains Marc Amorós, a journalist specialized in disinformation, to La Ventana.

Other rumors have also reported the destruction of four water tanks in the Valencian Community, due to the floods. This information is false, we are told. The same goes for the rumor of a prolonged water cut due to a failure of the Júcar-Turia canal. Faced with these rumors, it is urgent to provide scientific information to the population, believes the science journalist Javier Guerrero. "I believe that scientific education is important, it is important to have truthful media that do not transmit this type of hoax."

Speaking of Dana, the Spanish journalist reveals that "it is a tragedy that has been predicted for months. I have spoken to NASA scientists who have been saying it since March, April, May: with the heat records in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, the fuel of water vapor in the Iberian Peninsula is terribly high. We knew that such a phenomenon could occur, it is not something natural, we are fueling it with climate change."
