Unusual: On their honeymoon in Morocco, they save a cat and bring it back to the USA

The story begins in the heart of the Agafay desert, where the couple was staying at a campsite during their honeymoon. This is where they crossed paths with a malnourished little cat roaming near their tent. The animal, which they named Zahra - meaning "flower" in Arabic - immediately showed a playful and endearing personality, becoming "a kind of shadow" that followed the tourists at every step. Despite its apparent shyness, the persistence of the feline eventually melted the hearts of the newlyweds, who decided to adopt it after seeing it sleeping against the door of their tent.

But Zahra’s health condition was alarming. Her ribs were visible and her abdomen was hollowed out by intestinal parasites, requiring urgent intervention. The couple faced the difficulty of finding medical assistance in this isolated area: after many refusals, only one veterinarian agreed to drive an hour through the desert to treat the animal, proceeding with vaccination, sterilization and the implantation of a microchip.

The battle was not over yet. To bring Zahra back to New Jersey, the Nardis had to overcome multiple administrative obstacles, including obtaining export permits from the ONSSA, a process slowed down by the lack of signatories, as well as bringing the transport cage up to standard for the transatlantic flight. Today, Zahra is living in good health in the United States, and her story has inspired her owners to collaborate with a local Moroccan foundation to support the protection of abandoned cats in the desert.
