U17 World Cup: Morocco crushes New Caledonia 16-0 and can still hope for qualification
The Moroccan under-17 national team reacted spectacularly in their last group match at the World Cup in Qatar. After two initial defeats, the Atlas Lions managed a resounding score this Sunday, November 9, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the next round alive.
The national team won 16-0 against New Caledonia. The match, played at the Aspire Zone in Doha, quickly turned in Morocco’s favor. Bilal Soukrate opened the scoring as early as the 3rd minute, before Oualid Ibn Salah scored a brace (11th and 18th).
The situation for New Caledonia then collapsed. The team was reduced to nine players before half-time, following two red cards. With a numerical advantage, the Moroccans increased the score through Abdelali Eddaoudi (two goals) and Ziyad Baha, reaching half-time with a 7-0 lead.
A flood of goals in the second half
The scenario continued after the break. The Moroccan team added nine more goals against a completely overwhelmed opponent. Zakaria El Khalfioui scored the eighth goal (49th), closely followed by Ziyad Baha (50th).
Nahel Haddani then scored a brace (56th, 59th). Abdellah Ouazane (73rd) and a brace from Ismaïl El Aoud brought the score to 15-0. Abdellah Ouzzane finally closed the scoring with the sixteenth goal.
This 16-0 victory, while not guaranteeing qualification, significantly strengthens Morocco’s chances of finishing among the best third-placed teams in the tournament. The Atlas Lions now have to wait for the results of the other groups to know their final fate in this World Cup.
