Turkish Minister Walks Out During Israeli Counterpart’s Speech at Road Safety Congress

Participating in the Fourth World Congress on Road Safety in Marrakech, the Turkish Minister of Transport, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, would have boycotted the address of Miri Regev, his Israeli counterpart.
Uraloğlu would have left the room when Miri Regev was delivering her speech and would have returned only at the end of the Israeli minister’s intervention, reports Barlamane. The Turkish Minister of Transport had preceded Regev at the podium. In his address, he stated that road safety is a public health and sustainable development issue.
"In twenty-two years, we have developed nearly 25,000 kilometers of divided highways and reduced the number of road fatalities by 80%," he elaborated, highlighting the efforts made by his country in terms of regulation, control and driver awareness, as well as the widespread use of digital tachographs, in service for fifteen years.
Uraloğlu added that Turkey, as the world’s fourth largest producer of this device, has signed an agreement with Morocco. The official also stressed the need for sustainable financing for road safety and the modernization of transport infrastructure, reaffirming his country’s support for the "Marrakech Declaration".
