Tunisia Eyes Former Morocco Coach Halilhodžić to Lead National Team

Tunisia seems to want to draw inspiration from Morocco to revive its national football team. The Transition Committee, tasked by FIFA with straightening out the Tunisian Football Federation, is eyeing Vahid Halilhodžić, the Bosnian coach who qualified the Atlas Lions for the 2022 World Cup.
According to media sources, preliminary contacts have already taken place between the Committee and the 72-year-old Halilhodžić. The objective: to sound out the Bosnian coach’s interest in taking the reins of the Carthage Eagles. His past successes, particularly with Morocco, make him a prime candidate. It should be recalled that the Royal Moroccan Football Federation had terminated its contract with Halilhodžić a few months before the Qatar World Cup, following "divergences of views".
The Transition Committee would also be exploring other avenues, including that leading to Marc Wilmots, the former Belgium coach (2012-2016). Wilmots has a good knowledge of African football, having coached Côte d’Ivoire and Raja de Casablanca. He has also been the coach of Iran and the sports director of the German club Schalke 04.
It should be recalled that FIFA set up a Transition Committee last July to manage the Tunisian Football Federation. This decision, taken in agreement with the Confederation of African Football, aims to "get the Tunisian Football Federation out of its current crisis" and to revise its statutes. The mandate of this committee runs until January 31, 2025.
