Trump Administration Revokes 6,000 Foreign Student Visas in Immigration Crackdown

Last May, the Trump administration had decided to revoke the visas of foreign students. Moroccan students could be affected.
According to a US official, the United States has revoked the visas of more than 6,000 foreign students since the tightening of rules imposed by the Trump administration to combat illegal immigration in particular. Several reasons explain this measure. But the main reason was "for exceeding the authorized length of stay and violating the law," said this State Department official on condition of anonymity. And to specify: in "the vast majority of cases", it was "about assault, drunk driving, burglary and support for terrorism". Visas for foreign students have also been suspended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. They are accused of having led critical demonstrations against the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip. In total, about "4,000 of the 6,000 visas were revoked because these visitors violated the law," the same source said.
Back at the White House, Donald Trump has made the fight against illegal immigration a priority. He had indeed taken a decree to this effect as soon as he took office. The US president had called for increased control of people entering the United States to ensure that they "do not have hostile attitudes towards its citizens, its culture, its government, its institutions or its founding principles". Since then, the Trump administration has been targeting renowned universities, which it suspects of acting "against US foreign policy interests", canceling thousands of visas.
