Moroccan Suspect in Diana Santos Murder Case Heads to Trial in Luxembourg

The man of Moroccan origin, in custody for three years as the main suspect in the murder of Diana Santos, the 40-year-old Portuguese woman found dead on September 19, 2022 in Mont-Saint-Martin in Luxembourg, could be tried before the end of this year.
The information is reported by ICI Lorraine which indicates that the public prosecutor’s office in Diekirch, Luxembourg, has completed its investigation into this case since May 23 last and that the investigation report has been validated by the chamber of the council of the Diekirch court in an order dated July 7 last. The trial of the alleged murderer of Diana Santos should therefore open by the end of the year, it is specified.
On September 19, 2022, the body of a woman was found by teenagers near a former commercial premises in Mont-Saint-Martin, Luxembourg. Two tattoos and DNA analysis allowed the victim to be identified as Diana Santos, a woman in her forties of Portuguese origin living in Diekirch, Luxembourg.
The main suspect in this case was arrested in October 2022. This fifty-year-old Moroccan national is the uncle of Diana Santos’ last known partner. He was indicted for murder by the Luxembourg justice system. As for his nephew, he is still being sought by the police of the Grand Duchy. An international arrest warrant has been issued against him and letters rogatory are in progress with Morocco.
The Diekirch public prosecutor’s office "has requested the separation of proceedings" against the suspect’s nephew. The upcoming opening of the trial of the main accused will shed light on this case. The investigation did not make it possible to determine how Diana Santos was killed, nor the motive for this murder.
