Trial Set for Moroccan Real Estate Scandal Defendants in Bab Darna Case

The trial of the eight defendants in the Bab Darna real estate case will open on November 9.
Brought before the courts since 2019 and repeatedly postponed, this real estate scandal could reach its epilogue in the criminal chamber of the first instance court in charge of financial crimes at the Casablanca Court of Appeal, next month, reports Le360.
Involved are the CEO of the Bab Darna real estate group, Mohamed El Ouardi, the general manager Othman El Boukfaoui, a notary, four other employees as well as the CEO’s wife, arrested in April.
To recall, the Bab Darna affair, named after the real estate company Bab Darna, is a vast fraud that has shaken Moroccan society. It is a residential project that has been offering housing in all cities of the Kingdom since 2013, through reservation contracts with advance payments.
In total, 400 million dirhams were collected by the company and no housing was built.
