Transavia Expands Routes to Morocco, Replacing Ryanair Flights from Bordeaux

The Dutch low-cost airline Transavia will take over routes between Morocco and France operated by the Irish low-cost airline Ryanair.
Starting December 12, Transavia will take over five routes operated by Ryanair from Bordeaux-Mérignac airport: Marrakech (four flights per week), Agadir (two flights per week), Marseille (four flights per week), Porto (two flights per week) and Seville (two flights per week). It also plans to operate new destinations with Istanbul (two flights per week starting in December) and Dakar (two flights per week starting October 29), according to Air Journal, specifying that this flight program "will also be valid for the summer with the opening of ticket sales on Tuesday, October 1".
Upstream, the Dutch low-cost airline will position (initially) an A320neo aircraft at Bordeaux Mérignac airport starting October 1. "We’ll see how the next few months go to install other planes on this base and allow a permanent crew to be set up," explains Nicolas Hénin, commercial director for Transavia.
The increase in costs in Bordeaux starting in November 2024 has pushed the low-cost airline Ryanair to close its Bordeaux base next November. The arrival of Transavia will allow the airport to fill the void. In addition to the Dutch low-cost airline, EasyJet has also announced two new destinations from Bordeaux-Rabat and Rome-Fiumicino. According to Simon Dreschel, chairman of the board of Bordeaux Mérignac airport, 40% of Ryanair’s traffic has been taken over by other airlines.
