Tragic Drowning of 11-Year-Old Boy in Spain’s Júcar River Shocks Community

The lifeless body of Adam, 11, was recovered on Friday in a river in Ribera Alta, where he had dived with friends the day before, not knowing how to swim. The family of the boy of Moroccan origin is devastated.
Adam was used to "refreshing" himself in the Júcar river with his friends who helped him swim and get out of the water. But he was unlucky on Thursday when he was swept away by the strong current of this river that has already claimed many drowning victims. His lifeless body was recovered by firefighters on Friday, a few meters from where he had thrown himself into the river.
Adam’s parents, who were waiting near the football field of the Ciutat d’Alzira club located near the river, of which their son was a member, identified the body. His mother is devastated. Medical and psychological assistance was provided to her. Adam lived with his parents and two older sisters in a house on Albuixarres Street, before moving to Alzira where they have family, reports La Opinión de Malaga.
The city council has declared Monday as a day of mourning and called for a gathering that day in front of the town hall where a minute of silence will be observed in memory of Adam. The government delegate, Pilar Bernabé, expressed her condolences to the family and the mayor, Alfons Domínguez, thanking the rescue team for their professionalism and responsiveness.
