Tragic Car Crash in Morocco Claims Lives of Two Young French Soccer Players

The road accident that took the lives of two young people from the Vosges region in the early hours of Wednesday, September 11, has shocked and saddened the entire Kingdom, as well as their host region in France. A few days after their deaths, tributes are pouring in to the memory of these young talents who left us too soon.

Two dead and two injured, one seriously. This is the toll of this tragedy that has plunged their loved ones into emotion. This collision with a truck has shattered the careers of Hakim Rofqui and his friend, Jamel Falah, returning from vacation in their country of origin. Hakim’s father and uncle, who miraculously survived this tragedy, are still in the hospital where they were evacuated.

Hakim Rofqui, for his part, had played for Remiremont-Saint-Etienne before signing with Épinal. On his team’s side, the tributes recall what he was for the community, reports the local newspaper, Vosges matin.

According to some residents of his region who made the trip to the mosque, Hakim is very funny and endearing. "I learned of their death from a friend. I know Hakim especially and, at 23, this is not an age to die. Whenever we crossed paths, he made us laugh, he’s the last person I would have wanted to see go," says Bassirou Guèye. As for Luc Montlevrant, Coordinator at FC Remiremont-Saint-Etienne, the victim had a strong personality.

On his side, his friend, Jamel Falh, is more discreet, was less known to the inhabitants. He had, for a time, resided in the commune of Eloyes. "We saw him from time to time with the big ones," recalls a Romarimontain present at the mosque on Friday, September 13, for a prayer-tribute.

The relatives and friends continue to pray for Youssef, Hakim’s uncle, who is in a coma, to recover. To this end, a kitty has been launched and generated nearly 7,800 euros in donations on Thursday, September 14, to support the costly care he must undergo. Several residents of the neighborhood have gone to his bedside in recent hours.
