Surge in Racist and Anti-Semitic Acts Alarms French Mayors

For some time now, acts of racism, anti-Semitism and anti-immigrant sentiment have been taking on an alarming proportion in France. This is the case of the tags that have multiplied in Alsace and Lorraine, causing municipal authorities to come out of their reserve.
The level reached by acts of racism and anti-Semitism in France is worrying. In the small town of Porcelette (Moselle, 2,500 inhabitants) located less than 2 km from the German border, the mayor is completely overwhelmed by the situation. Indeed, Eddie Muller (non-partisan) has confided to AFP that he has decided to file a complaint.
For the typical example of his municipality, the walls of the cultural center, in particular, have received deplorable tags. Among other inscriptions, one could see swastikas, "Sieg Heil", "Jude Tot", "Vive Hitler". Faced with this attitude that he has condemned, Eddie Muller says he suspects "young people from Porcelette and the surrounding municipalities".
In Saint-Nabor (Bas-Rhin), a peaceful village of 500 inhabitants, at the foot of the Mont Sainte-Odile, the situation is even more critical. Anti-immigrant tags were discovered on the town hall-school on Wednesday, August 21. Here, it is the prefect of the Grand Est region, who is accused of welcoming migrants, while another tag denounces the Spanish humanitarian ship, Open Arms, which is cruising in the Mediterranean.
Another one claims a fire that targeted, on the evening of Monday, August 26, a building in Schiltigheim, a suburb of Strasbourg, where an association was housing families of foreign origin.
The same source notes that hateful tags such as "Stop invasion" or "Deport the illegals" (sic) accompanied by Nazi symbols were also discovered on Tuesday, August 27, on the walls of a former brewery in Strasbourg, now owned by the city and squatted by homeless people and migrants.
These are all deplorable situations that have also prompted the mayor of Saint-Nabor, François Lantz, to confirm the upcoming filing of a complaint, considering it "very surprising" that the authors of these tags "confirm a criminal act".
