Traffic Chaos on Moroccan Highways as Cities Close: 17 Accidents Reported

The decision of the Ministries of Health and the Interior to close eight cities in Morocco has led to a massive traffic jam on the highway network. As a result, 17 accidents were recorded on the night of Sunday, July 26.
These accidents are to be deplored due to the fear of individuals of finding themselves alone and far from their families, reports Telquel. By rushing onto the highways, they have accentuated these monstrous traffic jams. According to the same source, these accidents were recorded throughout the national territory without any fatalities being reported.
Faced with this traffic jam, all the actors involved in the highway network mobilized very quickly in the presence of the local authorities to secure the traffic, clear the lanes, and mitigate the number of accidents. According to the same source, road traffic returned to normal from Monday, July 27 at 4:30 a.m., while that of the PK21 (Berrechid - Casablanca) dissipated around 6 a.m.
Furthermore, the number of vehicles that transited on the national highway network exceeded 325,000 in just 11 hours. According to ADM, "the users have shown in their majority an exemplary patience without which the interventions would not have been successful". It also denounces "the videos circulating on social networks which do not reflect this reality".
