Tourism: Morocco breaks its historic record with 18 million visitors even before the euphoria of the CAN

Morocco has already welcomed 18 million tourists by the end of November, erasing the total for the year 2024. This unprecedented performance is nevertheless only a prelude: the exceptional convergence between the Africa Cup and the end-of-year celebrations promises to saturate the six host cities in December.

The sector is experiencing a prosperous period. One month before the end of the 2025 fiscal year, the Kingdom already has 600,000 more visitors than the entire previous year. The supervisory ministry estimates growth at 13.5%, validating the effectiveness of investments in air connectivity and the diversification of the offer provided for in the 2023-2026 roadmap.

The month of December is shaping up to be the climax of this dynamic. The organization of the Africa Cup of Nations is disrupting the usual standards of the winter season. Professionals anticipate a massive influx in hotels, driven by the arrival of African supporters, official delegations and international media. This wave is added to the traditional New Year’s celebrations, creating a positive pressure on transportation, catering and entertainment.

The Secretary General of the Regional Tourism Council of Marrakech, interviewed by Hespress, describes a historic configuration. The encounter between sports tourism and end-of-year festivities generates a double momentum that propels bookings to new heights. For him, the figures for the first eleven months already confirm the success of the national strategy, but December will transform the attempt in a spectacular way.

Beyond accounting euphoria, there is a call to perpetuate this achievement. The President of the Provincial Tourism Council of Al Haouz recalls that his region has rebounded vigorously after the 2023 earthquake. He insists on the need to convert these flows into sustainable development, by simplifying procedures for local actors and by promoting ecotourism and solidarity tourism. The challenge now goes beyond simple statistics to aim for a fair distribution of wealth throughout the territory.
