Top Moroccan Business Leader Abruptly Resigns from CGEM After 7-Year Tenure

Delegate General Director of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) for 7 years, Fadel Agoumi has decided to leave the head of this important structure. However, this former journalist has not, at least for the moment, made known the reasons for his resignation.

The official reasons, as well as the circumstances of Fadel Agoumi’s departure from the head of the CGEM, as well as his next professional destination, remain unknown so far. The former journalist has simply contented himself with a message broadcast to his contacts to inform them of his departure, without going into details.

Médias24, which reports the information, recalls that Fadel Agoumi took up his duties at the head of the CGEM, under the presidency of Miriem Bensalah Chaqroun, of whom he is one of the most loyal. He has several achievements to his credit in defending the interests of companies.

For its part, TelQuel notes that Fadel Agoumi’s departure comes a little more than a year after the arrival of Salaheddine Mezouar at the head of the employers’ organization, and continues its revelations. Indeed, the media was entrusted, by one of its sources, "in studied terms" that Fadel Agoumi "has decided to give a new orientation to his professional life". And to add that he "is not leaving the CGEM, he remains an advisor to the presidency and will continue to contribute". However, the media mentions another source who, for his part, affirms, on the other hand, that it is a "programmed departure", motivated by an "incompatibility of mood with the new management team".

It is a CGEM Administrator who comes to better summarize the situation: "There is a real problem of governance at the CGEM. And this departure is a new point to be added to the current floating governance, in line with the previous scandals. So it couldn’t go on for long in this kind of atmosphere with Fadel Agoumi," reports the same media, adding that this administrator is referring to the affair of the co-options of the President to the Board of Directors, beyond the limits provided for in the statutes.

It should be remembered that Fadel Agoumi is a trained manager, a graduate of ISCAE. The one who started his career at the Banque Centrale Populaire in 1992 will turn to communication. From 1998 onwards, he was a journalist for the weeklies Le Journal and La Vie éco, of which he was Editor-in-Chief and then Publisher.
