Tobacco in Morocco: new increase confirmed from January - here are the brands concerned
It is official. The Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII) has just made public the new tariff schedule for manufactured tobacco. By virtue of an order from the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, several products will see their prices change as of January 1, 2026.
Consumers will have to dig deeper into their pockets to get hold of certain brands. According to the details provided in the circular, the retail prices of packs such as Marvel, Fortuna or Gauloises are recording an increase ranging from 1 to 2 dirhams. This tariff revision does not only concern conventional cigarettes; cigars, cigarillos and heated tobacco products have also seen a price increase.
This change is part of a long-term tax planning. The 2022 Finance Act had indeed introduced a reform of the Domestic Consumption Tax (TIC) on tobacco, providing for a progressive taxation scheme that spans the period 2022-2026.
Alongside these measures on tobacco, the customs provisions of the 2026 Finance Act introduce other fiscal adjustments on imports. These changes, which affect everyday consumer products such as mobile phones, basic food, red meat or furniture, aim both to strengthen market regulation and to respond to the current tensions on purchasing power.
