Ticket System Glitches Threaten Annual Morocco-Spain Ferry Operation for Expats

Malfunctions are noted in the sale of tickets to Moroccans residing abroad wishing to travel to Morocco from the port of Algeciras as part of the Marhaba 2022 operation. This is revealed by parliamentary reports transmitted to the government authorities.
The Marhaba 2022 operation risks being compromised. According to government sources, "the sale of tickets is in such chaos that it threatens to ruin the first phase of the Strait crossing," reports the Arabic daily Al Akhbar. In reports transmitted to the government authorities, elected officials warn about the dysfunctions of the ticket sales system. Unlike previous years, tickets are no longer sold within the port premises in Morocco as well as in Spain. "A limited number of agencies outside the port" are now in charge of this ticket sales operation. This is one of the changes introduced this year in this operation.
In addition, access to ports in both countries is now subject to the presentation of a ticket that can be modified without any additional fees. This measure aims not only to avoid crowds and long queues, but it will also contribute to improving the crossing experience, said L’Économiste. However, things are not going as planned. Elected officials have identified several malfunctions in the sale of tickets. If they are not corrected soon, they risk compromising the Marhaba 2022 operation.
