Thousands of Moroccan Seasonal Workers Begin Return from Spain via Tanger Med Port

The first group of Moroccan seasonal workers stranded in Huelva, southern Spain, arrived on Sunday at the port of Tanger Med. This is about 1,200 people out of a total of 7,100 expected.
The Moroccan state has made six ships available to these seasonal workers to provide a direct maritime link between the ports of Huelva and Tanger Med. For Omar Moussa Abdullah, in charge of the medical and humanitarian pole at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, "the Foundation, responsible for overseeing the reception operation of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) ’Marhaba 2020’, has a duty to be by the side of all Moroccans who are in a particular situation, in order to help them and alleviate their suffering".
According to the same source, the Foundation acted according to the directives of King Mohammed VI, who was keen to launch the Marhaba operation which started late this year, and in exceptional circumstances. The arrival of the first ships at the ports of Beni Nsar and Tanger Med has already been noted. The official also pointed out that this operation "requires ensuring compliance with all preventive measures recommended by the ministries involved in the management of the Covid-19 pandemic".
He also thanked all those who worked for the success of this operation. The Tanger Med port authority, for its part, "mobilized the logistical means and transportation within the port, distributed meals and disinfectant gel for the beneficiaries of the operation".
