Thousands of Moroccan Farmworkers Return Home from Spain After Months of Hardship

Blocked for a long time in southern Spain, several thousand Moroccan workers are finally returning to the kingdom. Six boats were mobilized on this occasion by the Moroccan authorities to repatriate 7,100 Moroccans.
In a video widely circulated on the web by the Spanish newspaper El País, these seasonal workers from Huelva expressed their joy of returning to their country after enduring very difficult working conditions, and harassment from some of their employers.
According to the Moroccan Embassy in Spain, the repatriation plan for these 7,100 Moroccan seasonal workers from the province of Huelva was completed on Saturday, July 18, after the disembarkation of a first boat at the Tanger-Med port with 1,221 Moroccan women on board, aged between 25 and 50 years old. A first repatriation flight also took place on June 27 with more than 80 Moroccan seasonal workers on board suffering from health problems, pregnant or breastfeeding.
Spanish women also went to the site to greet these Moroccan workers before their departure with signs of thanks in Spanish and Arabic. They were grateful for the work done by the Moroccans. In addition, PCR and serological tests, made available by the Spanish authorities, were carried out for the benefit of all Moroccan seasonal workers, in order to preserve their health while respecting the necessary conditions for their departure to Morocco.
