Thousands of Illegal Food Companies Uncovered in Morocco, Posing Health Risks

3,000 food companies have been flagged by the National Office of Food Safety (ONSSA). They are operating in total illegality as they do not have any approval or even a health permit.
This is the first time that ONSSA has carried out such an exercise, even though one of its prerogatives is to approve or authorize companies in the food sector. Until the end of August 2019, ONSSA had authorized or approved nearly 7,700 establishments. But there are still thousands of industrial units that have chosen to operate illegally, with all the consequences this can have on the health of the Moroccan consumer.
But the Office does not intend to lower its guard. Medias24 points out that the issue is taken seriously as the Office plans to prioritize and actively address cases of agro-industrial activities where the health risk is high.
The consumer will also be involved in the fight through the implementation of a label or logo that will allow him to distinguish products from approved or authorized establishments from others. The launch of this standardized marking will be accompanied by a large communication and awareness campaign for consumers in order to encourage them to check the presence of the logo before purchasing any product.
