Thiago Pitarch rejects advances from Morocco (for now)

Morocco’s sports project, driven by its recent global successes, continues to attract dual nationals playing in Europe. After managing to convince Brahim Díaz to join the Atlas Lions, the Moroccan federation had set its sights on Thiago Pitarch, one of the most promising talents in the Madrid training center.

Born in Fuenlabrada and trained in Spain, Pitarch is currently shining under the orders of Álvaro Arbeloa. Morocco’s interest is based on the origins of his grandmother, born on Moroccan soil, a lineage that makes the player eligible according to FIFA regulations. However, the midfielder only has eyes for La Roja.

As El Debate recalls, the case of Brahim Díaz remains in everyone’s memory. Lacking the trust of Luis de la Fuente, the striker had ended up opting for Morocco, where he has become an icon. For Pitarch, the situation seems different since the young man has already worn the Spanish jersey in the lower categories.

The international fate of the prodigy now depends "solely and exclusively" on the Spanish coach Luis de la Fuente. The latter has repeatedly stated that he maintains full control over the elite footballers. For Pitarch, the goal is clear: to climb the ranks up to the European champion first team.

Despite this aborted desire, Morocco confirms its willingness to naturalize the best talents from the diaspora. The success of the Atlas Lions in Qatar has transformed the country into a destination of choice, creating fierce competition with the major European nations for the recruitment of young dual-national talents.

For now, Thiago Pitarch categorically refuses to initiate any steps with Morocco. Aware of his meteoric progress at Real Madrid, he hopes that his work will bear fruit to receive a call-up from the Spanish national team soon, thus putting an end to the hopes of the Moroccan federation.
