Theft of €50,000 worth of iPhones in Toulouse: a suspect arrested thanks to a manhunt between France and Morocco
A fruitful collaboration with Morocco has allowed the French police to arrest a 25-year-old man involved in the theft of several dozen state-of-the-art mobile phones from a store in the center of Toulouse.
The theft dates back to early February. Tear gas in hand, a gun butt at his waist, a hooded man entered the Bouygues Telecom store on the Place Esquirol, in the heart of Toulouse, and demanded phones, reports La Dépêche. It was just a few minutes before closing time. All the salespeople were paralyzed with fear. A saleswoman was forced to fill a bag with the latest iPhone models. The robber took the bag. The loot is estimated at 50,000 euros.
After a raid on the scene of the theft, the offices of the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (BRB) opened an investigation. The BRB police officers tracked the phones and found their trail in Morocco. They had been resold. The investigators then decided to collaborate with the Moroccan police services. They also managed to trace the flows of money repatriated to France and the Hexagon. The financial and technical investigations proved fruitful: they were able to identify the thief: a 25-year-old man.
On Tuesday, members of the Anti-Banditry Brigade (BRB) arrested the suspect, who was on a train from Paris. He had other phones in his luggage. But these were not the phones stolen in Toulouse. He will soon have to answer for his actions before the criminal court. In the meantime, the investigators are continuing their investigations.
