Armed robbery in Toulouse: The loot of 32,000 euros worth of phones found in Morocco
After eight months of investigation, the police finally arrested a 25-year-old man, accused of robbing the Bouygues store in Esquirol, Toulouse on Saturday, February 8, 2025, and taking away mobile phones worth a total of 32,000 euros, which he transported to Morocco to be sold on the black market.
On February 8, 2025, before the closure of the telephone store located on the Etienne Esquirol square, a hooded man, holding a tear gas canister, entered the store and "displayed a gun butt at the waistband of his pants, without using it," according to a police source in Actu Toulouse. The man asked the employees to give him the phones for sale. Under threat, they complied, and the robber left with 38 iPhones worth 32,000 euros.
The DCOS, the Division of Organized and Specialized Crime, opened an investigation to try to find the thief. The testimonies collected and the surveillance camera footage did not provide the investigators with more elements to locate the young man. However, they were able to geolocate the stolen phones in Morocco. On site, the investigators found about thirty of the 38 stolen phones from the Bouygues store with two resellers.
Continuing their investigation, the DCOS agents managed to identify the robber. He is a 25-year-old man, known to the justice system. With the collaboration of the Moroccan authorities, the Toulouse investigators finally caught him on Tuesday, October 28, as he was arriving at the Matabiau station. During his arrest, the young man was in possession of 14 phones that were not part of those stolen on February 8.
Two other men involved in this case will be arrested the same day: the alleged receiver, a 42-year-old man, and a suspected accomplice of 21 years old. The two suspects will be tried immediately with a deferred deadline. As for the author of the robbery, his trial is scheduled for mid-December.
