The US Navy equips Morocco with a network to better monitor its northern coast

The project appears in an official NAVWAR document, the US command responsible for information systems and naval warfare. It is identified there as “Morocco Microwave Transmission Network Phase 1A”.

NAVWAR specifies that the objective is to complete a microwave transmission network intended for “Maritime Domain Awareness” capabilities in the northern sector of the Moroccan coast.

A network to better monitor maritime activity

This system should not be confused with a new radar network. The US documents refer to a transmission network, intended in particular to carry the data used by maritime surveillance systems between different points.

Earlier NAVWAR programming documents indicate that Phase 1A includes the acquisition, integration, installation, testing and support of the network, as well as a component devoted to training.

The program is intended for the Royal Navy and forms part of the US security cooperation arrangements with Morocco.

The phase currently identified is to be completed in 2026. Through this project, the United States is thus helping to strengthen the infrastructure used by the Royal Navy to monitor maritime activity in the north of the country.
